On January 15th, my poem “Ballad of an Indonesian On January 15th, my poem “Ballad of an Indonesian Jackal” was announced as the runner-up for the Austin Clarke Prize in Literary Excellence. I am grateful and honored for being chosen by judge @infinitecitizen amongst a list of incredible poets ✨
This poem wouldn’t have existed if it weren’t for the people around me at @sheridancwp 🫶✨
I would like to dedicate this poem to my peers and fellow students of CW&P who are fighting the closure of our program @savesheridancwp , to my poetry professor @paulvermeersch who inspired me to keep on writing and being the first person who encouraged me to call myself a poet, to my mentor and current writer-in-residence @cassidymcfadzean who saw this poem in its rawest form and helped me edit it to become what it is today, and to my family and friends (you know who you are) who supported and encouraged me throughout my writing journey ✨

i’m currently reading Another Country, his third novel 🗽
the story takes me to the streets of new york following multiple perspectives grappling with their perception of race, privilege, sexuality and struggles associated with the colour of ones skin 🌃
